Total Fines must be under $5 to checkout. The maximum number of total items that can be borrowed at a time is 50. The maximum number of holds that can be on request at a time is 75. Requests from our home patrons (Stickney and Forest View) are fulfilled before requests from other libraries. New items do not circulate to other libraries on Interlibrary Loan.

Renewals and Returns
  • Books and audiobooks that do not have patrons waiting for them are eligible for two (2) automatic renewals two (2) days prior to their original due date. If a patron is signed up for email notifications, they will receive an email listing items that have renewed and those which could not be.
  • CDs can only be renewed once, if there are no holds. DVDs, video games, magazines, and eBooks cannot be renewed.
  • All items can be returned in the book drops located at each entrance, except for Wi-Fi hotspots, which must be returned directly to SFVPL staff.
  • Movies and video games from our Media Box (items in a red case) may be returned one of three ways:
    • directly to the Media Box,
    • returned to SFVPL staff,
    • or returned in one of SFVPL's book drops.
Returning Media Box items to a different library may result in late or lost fees.
  • Books, music, games, and movies (non-Media Box) may be returned to any SWAN library.

Visiting Other Libraries

Use your Stickney-Forest View Public Library card at any of the SWAN consortium libraries

When visiting other SWAN libraries, please be aware:
  • Loan Periods and Fines listed above only apply to the items you check out at Stickney-Forest View Public Library.
  • Checkout periods and fines vary for other libraries.
  • Materials checked out from other SWAN libraries count toward your item limit.
You may also get a reciprocal card at Chicago Public Library with your Stickney-Forest View Public Library card and a current ID with your address.

Requesting Materials from Other Libraries

You can request materials from other SWAN libraries to be sent to the Stickney-Forest View Library through the SWAN catalog. Create an account using the barcode number on the back of your library card. If you need help creating an account, you can call the Circulation Desk at 708-749-1050 x100.

If you do not see what you are looking for in the SWAN catalog, the Library may be able to request the item from a library outside of SWAN.

Review our Policies and Information about getting a library card.
